Vicissitudes

———

It was only yesterday, when I had rested my head just after midnight , that I saw the universe.

I saw the clearest sky in the deepest hue of blue. The stars came out in all their dazzling splendour and resumed their courtship with immortals who professed their love with colours, words and notes of wonder.I saw Venus sitting by her window, her half-smile revealing the bliss in her bosom.I saw Jupiter, sitting on his throne like Indra, being entertained by Ganymede and Callista.I saw Pluto lying in shame at Eris’ coronation.I saw the Moon making love to the Sea, dipping into its waters and shining her light on each and every wave that rose to meet her.

Tonight I rest my head again and all I can see is the roof closing in on me. I writhe in vain to reach out to the universe but I am bound by the chains of my thoughts that gnaw away at my sanity like a swarm of rats.
